Skilled Visa
If you are a professional tradesman looking for work then Australia is the place to come to. There are a great many opportunities in Australia due to the shortage of skilled workers here. Industries that are short of staff include concreters and bricklayers, builders, plumbers, painters, electricians, carpenters and joiners. Much of this work is of a temporary nature and that makes it ideal for those wishing to have a working holiday in Australia.
Working visas are for six months duration and you must be out of Australia before applying for the first one. However, if you then want to extend your stay, you can apply for a second working visa from within Australia. The main criteria for that to be granted is that you must have worked for three months on seasonal - that is, harvest - work in the country areas of Australia, not the cities.
Those professionals who want to seek opportunities to work in their chosen career in Australia may be interested in the employer sponsored work visa. You can live and work in Australia for up to four years with this kind of visa. It applies to a number of different professions and careers.
A position offered under the employer-sponsored visa has to be full time and a minimum salary applies, though this may be waived if the position is in a regional area. There are several different programs used, so if you are looking for career opportunities you need to seek the one that suits you.
If you are trained in the educational field, then an educational visa is the type you should look for. This will allow you to work in Australia as a teacher for between 3 months and four years. Positions available include librarian, researcher or demonstrator at a lab, technician or academic at tech colleges, schools, and tertiary education or at a research institution.
Doctors and medical professionals may come in on a standard employee sponsorship visa or a Medical Practitioner visa. The main difference is for the employer; the former visa allows sponsorship of a group while the latter applies only to a single person - more suitable to regional centres.
The occupational trainee visa is different again in that it applies only if you undertake a training program that is based in the work place. This lasts for two years, plus another two months to allow for further application or arrangements for leaving Australia. So there are many ways and means to further or enhance your professional career opportunities in Australia. It could be the best thing you ever did.
